Ashwick Series - Book 1
A Cozy Fantasy of a Magical Bookshop, a Reluctant Witch, and the Town That Refuses to Let Her Leave
Maren Ashby is very good at leaving. Fifteen years as a book-finder have taught her to read a place quickly, be useful briefly, and go before anyone knows her. When her great-aunt dies and leaves her an enchanted bookshop in the wool-trade town of Ashwick, she arrives with a solicitor's letter and a plan: assess the shop, put it in order, decide what to do with it.
She does not plan to stay. The shop, it turns out, has opinions about this.
Books appear where they are needed most. The shelves seem to remember things no one has spoken aloud. And when Maren places the right book in the right hands, warmth blooms beneath her fingers — as though the shop itself approves.
Ashwick, meanwhile, has already begun the quiet work of noticing her.
Outside, the village moves through the long winter in small rituals: market days, shared meals, lantern-lit evenings, and the unspoken ways neighbours care for one another. Slowly, against her better judgement, Maren finds herself drawn into the rhythms of the square — and into the lives of people who seem to expect she might still be there tomorrow.
Yet old habits are difficult to abandon. Leaving has always been easier than being known.
As the bookshop begins to reveal the memories it has been keeping, Maren must decide whether belonging is something she can finally trust herself to choose.
A warm fantasy about found family, enchanted books, and the courage it takes to let a place know you.
